In life, have anyone ask:
"Who are you?"
"Who are you?"
Some might say "I'm Desmond"
Some might say "I'm son of so and so"
But really who are you? Are you made up of your name, physical appearances, IC numbers, the university you are at, the course you major, blah blah.
The world seems to have a fetish of asking for definitions and seek to find them in almost everything, expect your own identity definition.
What defines you?
In Singapore and working world, people define you by your professions, skills, talents, major and university.
When bypassing the custom, you are define by your name, IC number and the photo on your passport.
Some define you as a child of the Higher Being.
Some define you as the son of whoever.
But if I was taken away from all these things, does it make me less of me? Or even I will no longer cease to be me. No idea, but it is all these things that we seek so hard everyday, forgetting that the world actually has more problems than when is your next promotion, when you will be graduating. Because the world definition revolves around all these so it is important to achieve.
Then some might say, if all these does not seek to define oneself, then what is?
Nothing.
From ashes we come, to ashes we become.
Life is random, without meaning but irreversible and only once.
Therefore make full use of it. Don't try to craft out that definition of what the world, society, people define you as.
Cause you are nothing to be define about.
I am Desmond.
